Littlejohn

My ancestors are cooler than your ancestors. That's why they have made countless movies about this story. (The man to the right of Russell Crowe in the above picture and the last on the horse in the bottom picture is the actor representing a great grandfather of mine. It's true, I promise.)

P.S. We're just going to pretend that the tale of Robin Hood and Littlejohn (aka Little John) is historically accurate and that my family really is related because it's more fun that way and we don't have any family history done past my great grandfather. I can't tell you how many times I've been asked "Littlejohn? Like in Robin Hood?" when people would find out my old last name. If they all think it, then it must be true, right? I used to just laugh it off until we took a family trip to England where my mom was giving our name to the hotel guy and asked if she needed to spell it for him. (You wouldn't believe how wrong people get it.) The guy told us he knew how to spell it and there were actually a lot of Littlejohn's in the Nottingham area. That's where the "what if" really started for me. Really, what if...

Mmmm...Smores

There are no pictures but I promise there were smores. We hung out with our friends, the Dukes, one last time before we moved. We went to the store to pick up the supplies and Aubrey couldn't not get on the horse and fire truck. I'm very glad that the grocery stores we normally go to do not have these things because I would have to deal with an even more whinny child.

And, of course, one last picture with friends. Two thirds of the FHE group. Thanks guys for getting the grill so we could BBQ and eat smores. (We never got a picture with the other third because they left so quickly for the summer but I wanted to take a picture with one of the Morgans framed pictures since we were staying in their place for a month. Of course, I forgot.)

Our Life is Random

Aubrey trying to drink while watching a movie on the computer. I don't know why I think it's funny but I do. I also like how she has her own water sitting right there but she still has to drink Adam's.

Aubrey looking like a homeless person with her pj's.

We visited Adam's cousins before we left Texas. We got caught in a crazy hail storm on the way there. My car came out extremely dented after only ten minutes in the hail before we were able to get off the freeway and find shelter under the freeway. That part of the trip wasn't so much fun. My poor car.

Apologize and Shake It

Aubrey's favorite song right now, by far is Apologize. She gets so excited when she hears the first couple of notes and will listen to it all the time if we let her. I can only do two in a row but it's pretty cute when she requests it. (I can;t have these videos up for too long so look at them now 'cause I'll be taking them down in a few weeks. My YouTube account might get deleted if I don't since these songs are copyrighted.)

This next video is of her second favorite song, Shake It.

The Alamo (and not the one in California)

I can't tell you how many times people were shocked when they found out we had never taken a trek down to the Alamo in San Antonio. People who weren't even native Texans were shocked. We only lived in Texas a year and a half but we thought, before we left, we should take a weekend trip down there and even watched the movie to prepare. We probably went on the busiest and hottest weekend of the year but we had fun. Here a few pictures to prove we were there.

Waiting in line.

Cannon "dent" in the wall.

Watching the men read the Declaration of Independence.

The men who were reading it.

I like it when Adam and Aubrey have their little conversations.

Aubrey loves Tigger and her dog.

We went to the Hard Rock Cafe right on the river. I ordered a burger and Adam ordered a salad. When they brought the food out, the waitresses were looking right at me when they asked who ordered the salad, assuming it was me of course. The look on both their faces was pretty funny when Adam said he did. Really, I don't know why they were so surprised.

On the boat ride on the river walk. The river walk area was so pretty. It was fun to see this small river with lots of green right in the middle of the city.

Tuckered out. She never sleeps with her mouth open. She must have been really tired.

On the way to the temple...

This creepy Chucky thing is what we we drove behind for a little bit on the way to the temple. I only mention the temple because I think it makes it funnier. Most of the people in Texas are pretty normal so it makes this stand out like crazy. (We saw two people riding bikes yesterday outside our place in Los Angeles. One was a normal bike but the other was raised so high that the part he was sitting on was above the SUVs. It wasn't a unicycle. It had two wheels but looked like it had just been stretched.)

The Arcade

All three of us went to a pizza place with an arcade for a friend's birthday. Aubrey is fascinated with race car driving game and spent most of her time sitting on this machine. Good thing she's just as happy to "play" it without inserting coins as she would be if I shelled out the money for it because I would be broke (not that I would actually pay for her to play it but you get the idea).

The Zoo

We went to the Fort Worth Zoo and here are just one or two pictures to prove it.

Above and below: Looking at the apes and monkeys. When we first walked in, a gorilla was sitting with his back to us right in front of the glass. We could have reached out and touched him if the glass weren't there. I'm glad it was because it was crazy to see how just how big the hands were.

I think it's the cutest thing to see Aubrey and Adam walk hand in hand. It just melts my heart for some reason. (Did you ever think I would say something like "melt my heart"? Me neither but it's true.)

Adam and Aubrey reading about the lions.

The lions were boring but check out who was right across the walkway from them so they get to stare at something they can't touch all day, everyday. Maybe they're friends like in the movie Madagascar.

Aubrey was just as interested in the statues as she was the real, live animals.

A sweaty Aubrey watching the penguins.

She loves the train. You can't tell because of the pacifier and the fact that it was past her nap time but she loves it and cried a lot when it was time to get off.

Watching the flamingos in their beautifully landscaped mud pit.

A few things I learned at the zoo with kids.
1. Kids like the stupid random birds you can see anywhere just as much as the fun things like kangaroos. I couldn't get Aubrey to look at the kangaroos because she was watching this bird hop around.
2. Lions and tigers are boring. They just lay there. Meerkats are fun to watch pop in and out of the holes.
3. Don't go when you're in Texas where it's humid in the middle of summer when it's over 100 degrees.

Sucks

You know what sucks? Getting the hiccups when you have a sore throat. It's just cruel.

Too Cool
